ARTECHOUSE

 Aṣẹ: Afro Frequencies

In spring of 2022, I had the pleasure of working with the experiential art group, ARTECHOUSE, for their project: Aṣẹ: Afro Frequencies. Headlined with art by Vince Fraser, it was a six month long installation in Washington D.C., where his visuals, and the poetry of Ursula Rucker, flowed everywhere around patrons, with projections lining the walls, and floor, and audio spatialized with 3D sound.

I had the opportunity to provide the background score for this production, which was meant to mix traditional West African drumming, with modern electronica. The incredibly cool thing was the music got to be mixed in 3D as well. So drums, and rhythms, and pads, would be playing all around you, in a totally encompassing way: beyond the limitations of traditional stereo sound.

While not an accurate show of how it would sound in the theater, above is a video of the finale music I wrote. Also, here’s a link to a video, not by myself, of someone attending the exhibit!
