The Final Girl

The first film I collaborated with Gus Eid on, The Final Girl is a horror story about an up and coming actress going to visit an idol of hers, and finding more than she bargained for.

This movie holds a close place in my heart, as it not only was the first soundtrack I'd ever written, but also taught me a valuable lesson about music and the entertainment industry. Gus had this brilliant idea of using ambient music and audio throughout the website he designed for the production, and he had me create the pieces for it.

This opened my eyes to the possibilities of what a composer can do out there. It's not a rigid path lucking into a movie, or a TV show, but in reality, countless things need music. From commercials, to podcasts, to websites, being flexible and willing to try one's hand at anything, is an important virtue for success, and for that, I am forever thankful to Gus for.

Writing the website cues also provided an ample opportunity to establish the themes, and soundscape for the film. Ambient synth textures brush against dueling motifs for the antagonist, and the "Final Girl." A third idea also reveals itself in the movie within a movie, Sid Boy: appearing in the sequence where a scene from it is shown, and also working as a secondary identity for the antagonist in the rest of the score.
